Hello from deep 'In The Thick Of It'
Everything you need to know about this newsletter, why we need to speak more about the clusterf*** that is motherhood & how we can reclaim our creative identity—even with a baby latched to our boob!
Apparently there’s been a bit of a Substack trend of late to share a ‘hero’ post with your readers on the front page of your publication. Did you hear about that?
But like most things Substack-related, I feel as if I’m constantly swimming upstream, struggling to maintain a consistent publishing schedule—let alone stay up to date with the latest tech rollouts, tips and strategies implemented by some of the more successful newsletters I follow.
Still, I LOVE the idea of the hero post as it can sometimes be overwhelming to know where to start when you’ve stumbled across a writer who feels like they’re your jam. A hero post can therefore be the perfect introduction to their work, their brand and their business—as the case may sometimes be.
So… here’s everything you need to know about In The Thick Of It. I hope you’ll stay, subscribe and share your own experiences with this blossoming community!
What To Expect
To sum it up as simply as possible, this newsletter is for anyone who feels like they’re deep in the thick of it—a term I’ve coined to describe the transitional and (often) transformative years in the middle part of life.
Most often I’ll be sharing personal essays that speak to my experience of motherhood, creativity and the intersection of identity during this season of life—but with a solid background as a health and lifestyle journalist, I also love to pepper my work with the latest research, sharing opinion pieces that will hopefully provide a springboard for you to think a little deeper about the world we live in. No matter the subject matter, however, this is a judgment-free space and while I might tackle controversial topics at times, I always endeavour to present a balanced view and invite conversation amongst my readers.
I hope you’ll discover a little sparkle of joy when you visit my publication and if you’re a parent, perhaps a gentle reprieve from the mundanity of motherhood when you sit down to read my work.

What You Will Receive
ALL subscribers will receive my weekly newsletter!
But should you wish to support my work, at $5/month (less than the price of a coffee!), or $50/year, you will also receive extra content every other week as well as access to my guest posts and any extra resources that I create over the course of the year.
My plan is to continue to add to this offering as soon as I come up from breastfeeding—but the bulk of content will remain entirely free!

Me too! I can absolutely relate! Can also relate to being a mother and trying to be a creative in amongst it all. Chaos – it's absolute chaos for me, that I sometimes love and sometimes feel overwhelmed by.
Glad we’ve found each other!
